Dear Subscriber,
'Tis
the season for celebrating with friends and family,
feasting on figgy pudding, listening to holiday music,
reflecting on the past year, and perhaps stressing. To
help reduce the stress in your season, have a look at
our On
Managing section below. Curling up with a good book,
a favorite pet and a cup of tea is another possibility
to reduce the stress in your life. Check out our
Reading Room recommendation below.
The
New Year brings new possibilities, promise, and
potential.
As part of your New Year's plans consider taking
the Leadership Challenge ™, attending one of our
interactive workshops or becoming a dynamic duo.

On
Managing...Stress
While
some stress is good for you, stress exhaustion is not.
Five tips on managing stress during this holiday season.
1.
Take
things one-step at a time.
Multi-tasking isn't always the best approach when you
are under stress.
2.
Concentrate
on what matters most
- and let other things go. One of our family traditions
was enjoying homemade eggnog and figgy pudding. During
the hubbub of activities we decided that store bough
eggnog and cake (figgy pudding is really more cake than
pudding) are just fine. It is more important to be able
to enjoy the eggnog and figgy pudding than taking the
time to make it yourself.
3.
Delegate
when possible.
For example, the Internet is a great way to take care of
shopping. Do you really need to be in the malls with all
the rest of the holiday merrymakers?
4.
Take
care of yourself.
Just like on the airplanes, put your oxygen mask on
first, and then help those around you.
5.
Breathe. Always a good
idea. It is even more important when someone cuts you
off in traffic, at the checkout line or in mid-song.
Deep breathing. Inhale count to three, exhale. Repeat as
needed. |

Stress
can affect us in many ways, physical, emotional,
spiritual, mental, and relational. To achieve high
performance we need to balance stress with recovery.
Loehr and Schwartz discuss the dynamics of full
engagement by concentrating on managing our energy and
not focusing on managing our time. Physical, emotional,
mental, and spiritual energy all play a part in out
ability to handle stress and perform at our peak. "The
ultimate measure of our lives is not how much time we
spend on the planet but rather how much energy we invest
in the time that we have."
How
are you investing your energy?
